Top Wedding Trends of 2011

Top Wedding Trends

Our current economic state is still affecting many brides and bridal trends. Many brides are opting for luxurious and intimate brunch events and intimate dinner events instead of more formal, larger dinner events. Among the trends for 2011 are digital additions to the traditional ceremonies and vintage inspired touches.

Trends:

1) Vintage Inspiration - One of the most popular trends for 2011 is vintage-inspired touches. The most prevalent is vintage veils (like this one from Twig and Honey, twigsandhoney.com), but other items such as transportation choices are also getting a fresh take with some vintage inspiration. The Mad-Men inspired 1950’s influence has been replaced by 1920’s Prohibition Era influence as inspired by HBO's Boardwalk Empire

2) Digital Wedding Touches - Brides are using digital methods to share their wedding information such as electronic RSVP’s, wedding sites, and social media. According to a study from David’s Bridal, “48% of brides-to-be update their Facebook with new name or relationship status within a day of taking their vows and 44% are interested in doing whatever it takes to get their fifteen minutes of YouTube fame, like a choreographed dance down the aisle or first dance.” (Photo: Philadelphia Entertainment Company)

You could even dress up your iPad as a guest book as the newest way for guests to "write" you well wishes. Bonus? Post wedding, you can easily share your guest book online via YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr or Vimeo.”

A recent article from The Knot stated, “Building on the idea of wedding photo booths, take it up a notch and create a confessional-style video booth for your guests to say a few words about you to the camera.”  EJ the DJ offers this service with our new black photo booth

3) Environmentally Friendly is Always in Fashion - From electronic invitations to recycled paper invitations, the trends for 2011 are leaning toward Earth-friendly options. Recycled and electronic items are replacing conventional paper. Trends include: minimizing driving for guests, donating leftover food rather than throwing it out, and offering guests the option of giving donations in your name instead. 4) Metallic, Texture, and Bold Color Patterns - Rich colors, textures and metallic elements add luxury to conventional weddings while also making a bold and unique statement. OneWed, Glamour, and The Knot are all reporting on the new color trends. Many brides are opting for crisp black, silver, burgundy, and warm colors that create a “pop.” While others are selecting deep jewel tone colors that have a vibrant appeal such as honeysuckle, rich corals, vibrant apple greens, and goldenrod.

5) Reality TV Weddings - From “Four Weddings” to “Say Yes to the Dress,” there are a wealth of reality television shows aimed at real life weddings. More and more brides are willing to share their special day with all of the nation. Keep your eye on these shows because they often recognize the latest trends, including venues, gowns, and bakeries. In fact, Russo’s on the Bay brides have won twice on “Four Weddings!”

Creative Desserts - While traditional wedding cakes are always a show stopper, interesting dessert tables, dessert bars, candy dishes, and mini-desserts, such as the Venetian Table at Russo’s on the Bay pictured here, are making a big splash as brides opt for edible favors instead of conventional table favors. Creative dessert tables are a big splash for 2011 and will continue into 2012 as a popular trend.
